Chicago DJ mentor program returns to support female-identifying and non-binary music enthusiasts:

The program, which first happened back in March, gets its name from a song by Laurie Anderson. It sees the four organizers hosting participants for a week of private lessons, mentoring and networking so that they can develop their own DJing skills. The main public event is an early-evening workshop at smartbar next Saturday the 7th that’s open to those 18 and over, where the mentored participants will share their knowledge at several instructional DJ stations. Later that night, Sassmouth’s Planet Chicago party will take over the club (with smartbar’s usual 21-and-over admission policy). Washington-based live electro artist 214 will top the bill, and back-to-back sets will come from Sassmouth and Kiernan Laveaux, and Kiddo and Antiphase.

Walking & Falling’s other events next week include a crate-digging session at the Gramaphone record store on Thursday, to be followed by Femme’s Room at the club Berlin with Doc Sleep and Luz, and a day party on Sunday, details for which are still TBA—from there, the end-of-week celebration continues at smartbar with the club’s weekly Queen! event, which features an appearance from Secretsundaze.

Before all that, two local radio shows on WNUR—Ariel Zetina’s new Monday-night segment and Babe Central on Wednesday night—will help preview the week’s program.
