Virginia Woolf: Struggling (And Never Being Perfect):

makingqueerhistory:

There are complexities in the makeup of Woolf’s character that make her problematic. Woolf was deeply anti-Semitic and had racist leanings like many in the aristocratic society of her time. Her queerness does not excuse these prejudices; however, her experiences with queerness, as well as her experiences with mental illness, are still worth exploring. These aspects of her personality, as expressed through her relationships as well as through her writing, allow modern readers of her work to find not a role model, but rather hints of their own struggles in a pillar of the past.
